Rochester Housing Authority Section 8
Rochester Housing Authority Section 8 is now called the Housing Choice Voucher Program. it is a federally-funded HUD program that subsidizes the rent of eligible low-income households or individuals. Section 8 rental assistance is based on the Tenant. It means that the families or individuals can live in an eligible rental unit of their choice anywhere within the RHA jurisdiction or, if the household is qualified, they can “port” their Housing choice voucher and move anywhere in the country.
Rent must be reasonable compared to other similar unassisted units in the area for the unit to qualify for the program. The unit must also pass Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspection and maintain HQS standards during the contract period with RHA. The family will typically pay 30 to 40% of their monthly income for shelter and the RHA will pay the remaining amount.
